Steps for adding fractions
- Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 16 - For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 4 = 16,
2/4 = 2 × 4/4 × 4 = 8/16 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 16 × 1 = 16,
2/16 = 2 × 1/16 × 1 = 2/16 - Add the two like fractions:
8/16 + 2/16 = 8 + 2/16 = 10/16 - 10/16 simplified gives 5/8
- So, 2/4 + 2/16 = 5/8
