Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 8 × 3 = 24,
    2/8 = 2 × 3/8 × 3 = 6/24
  4. Add the two like fractions:

  5. 12/24 simplified gives 1/2
  6. So, 3/12 + 2/8 = 1/2
