- Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
LCM of 30 and 3 is 30
Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 30 - For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 1 = 30,
1/30 = 1 × 1/30 × 1 = 1/30 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 3 × 10 = 30,
2/3 = 2 × 10/3 × 10 = 20/30 - Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
- 1/30 < 20/30 or 1/30 < 2/3
