Compare 1/4 and 10/30

1/4 is smaller than 10/30

Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 4 and 30 is 60
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 15 = 60,
    1/4 = 1 × 15/4 × 15 = 15/60
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 30 × 2 = 60,
    10/30 = 10 × 2/30 × 2 = 20/60
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 15/60 < 20/60 or 1/4 < 10/30
