Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 8 is 120

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 120
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 4 = 120,
    3/30 = 3 × 4/30 × 4 = 12/120
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 8 × 15 = 120,
    10/8 = 10 × 15/8 × 15 = 150/120
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 12/120 < 150/120 or 3/30 < 10/8
