- Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
LCM of 9 and 15 is 45
Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 45 - For the 1st fraction, since 9 × 5 = 45,
3/9 = 3 × 5/9 × 5 = 15/45 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 15 × 3 = 45,
4/15 = 4 × 3/15 × 3 = 12/45 - Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
- 15/45 > 12/45 or 3/9 > 4/15
