Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 28 is 84

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 84
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 28 = 84,
    4/3 = 4 × 28/3 × 28 = 112/84
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 28 × 3 = 84,
    10/28 = 10 × 3/28 × 3 = 30/84
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 112/84 > 30/84 or 4/3 > 10/28
