  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 12 × 7 = 84,
    9/12 = 9 × 7/12 × 7 = 63/84
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    6/84 + 63/84 = 6 + 63/84 = 69/84
  5. 69/84 simplified gives 23/28
  6. So, 1/14 + 9/12 = 23/28
