Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 7 and 10 is 70

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 70
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 7 × 10 = 70,
    1/7 = 1 × 10/7 × 10 = 10/70
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 7 = 70,
    2/10 = 2 × 7/10 × 7 = 14/70
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    10/70 + 14/70 = 10 + 14/70 = 24/70
  5. 24/70 simplified gives 12/35
  6. So, 1/7 + 2/10 = 12/35
