Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 12 and 6 is 12
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 12 × 1 = 12,
    10/12 = 10 × 1/12 × 1 = 10/12
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 6 × 2 = 12,
    2/6 = 2 × 2/6 × 2 = 4/12
  4. Add the two fractions:
    10/12 + 4/12 = 10 + 4/12 = 14/12
  5. 14/12 simplified gives 7/6
  6. So, 10/12 + 2/6 = 7/6
    In mixed form: 11/6
