Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 12 and 10 is 60
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 12 × 5 = 60,
    10/12 = 10 × 5/12 × 5 = 50/60
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 6 = 60,
    5/10 = 5 × 6/10 × 6 = 30/60
  4. Add the two fractions:
    50/60 + 30/60 = 50 + 30/60 = 80/60
  5. 80/60 simplified gives 4/3
  6. So, 10/12 + 5/10 = 4/3
