Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 20 and 30 is 60
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 20 × 3 = 60,
    10/20 = 10 × 3/20 × 3 = 30/60
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 30 × 2 = 60,
    6/30 = 6 × 2/30 × 2 = 12/60
  4. Add the two fractions:
    30/60 + 12/60 = 30 + 12/60 = 42/60
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 7/10
