Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 45 and 9 is 45
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 45 × 1 = 45,
    10/45 = 10 × 1/45 × 1 = 10/45
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 9 × 5 = 45,
    4/9 = 4 × 5/9 × 5 = 20/45
  4. Add the two fractions:
    10/45 + 20/45 = 10 + 20/45 = 30/45
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 2/3
