12/18 = 12 × 8/18 × 8 = 96/144 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 16 × 9 = 144,
4/16 = 4 × 9/16 × 9 = 36/144 - Add the two like fractions:
96/144 + 36/144 = 96 + 36/144 = 132/144 - 132/144 simplified gives 11/12
- So, 12/18 + 4/16 = 11/12
