Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 60 is 60
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 2 = 60,
    12/30 = 12 × 2/30 × 2 = 24/60
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 60 × 1 = 60,
    4/60 = 4 × 1/60 × 1 = 4/60
  4. Add the two fractions:
    24/60 + 4/60 = 24 + 4/60 = 28/60
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 7/15
