Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 2 and 10 is 10
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 2 × 5 = 10,
    15/2 = 15 × 5/2 × 5 = 75/10
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 1 = 10,
    40/10 = 40 × 1/10 × 1 = 40/10
  4. Add the two fractions:
    75/10 + 40/10 = 75 + 40/10 = 115/10
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 23/2
  6. In mixed form: 111/2
