Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 10 is 30
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 10 = 30,
    18/3 = 18 × 10/3 × 10 = 180/30
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 3 = 30,
    5/10 = 5 × 3/10 × 3 = 15/30
  4. Add the two fractions:
    180/30 + 15/30 = 180 + 15/30 = 195/30
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 13/2
  6. In mixed form: 61/2
