Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 84

    2/12 = 2 × 7/12 × 7 = 14/84
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 14 × 6 = 84,
    10/14 = 10 × 6/14 × 6 = 60/84
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    14/84 + 60/84 = 14 + 60/84 = 74/84
  5. 74/84 simplified gives 37/42
  6. So, 2/12 + 10/14 = 37/42
