Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 6 is 6
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 2 = 6,

  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 6 × 1 = 6,

  4. Add the two fractions:
    4/6 + 5/6 = 4 + 5/6 = 9/6
  5. 9/6 simplified gives 3/2
  6. So, 2/3 + 5/6 = 3/2
    In mixed form: 11/2
