Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 10 is 30

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 30
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 10 = 30,
    2/3 = 2 × 10/3 × 10 = 20/30
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 3 = 30,
    8/10 = 8 × 3/10 × 3 = 24/30
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    20/30 + 24/30 = 20 + 24/30 = 44/30
  5. 44/30 simplified gives 22/15
  6. So, 2/3 + 8/10 = 22/15
    In mixed form: 17/15
