Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 4 and 10 is 20

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 20

    2/4 = 2 × 5/4 × 5 = 10/20
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 2 = 20,
    3/10 = 3 × 2/10 × 2 = 6/20
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    10/20 + 6/20 = 10 + 6/20 = 16/20
  5. 16/20 simplified gives 4/5
