Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 4 and 6 is 12

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 12
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 3 = 12,
    2/4 = 2 × 3/4 × 3 = 6/12
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 6 × 2 = 12,
    3/6 = 3 × 2/6 × 2 = 6/12
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    6/12 + 6/12 = 6 + 6/12 = 12/12
  5. 12/12 simplified gives 1/1
  6. So, 2/4 + 3/6 = 1/1
