Steps for adding fractions
- Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 12 - For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 3 = 12,
2/4 = 2 × 3/4 × 3 = 6/12 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 6 × 2 = 12,
5/6 = 5 × 2/6 × 2 = 10/12 - Add the two like fractions:
6/12 + 10/12 = 6 + 10/12 = 16/12 - 16/12 simplified gives 4/3
- So, 2/4 + 5/6 = 4/3
In mixed form: 11/3
