Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 9 and 8 is 72
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 9 × 8 = 72,
    2/9 = 2 × 8/9 × 8 = 16/72
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 8 × 9 = 72,
    6/8 = 6 × 9/8 × 9 = 54/72
  4. Add the two fractions:
    16/72 + 54/72 = 16 + 54/72 = 70/72
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 35/36
