Add 20/30 and 4/9

20/30 + 4/9 is 10/9.

Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 9 is 90
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 3 = 90,
    20/30 = 20 × 3/30 × 3 = 60/90
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 9 × 10 = 90,
    4/9 = 4 × 10/9 × 10 = 40/90
  4. Add the two fractions:
    60/90 + 40/90 = 60 + 40/90 = 100/90
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 10/9
  6. In mixed form: 11/9
