Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 42 and 28 is 84
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 42 × 2 = 84,
    25/42 = 25 × 2/42 × 2 = 50/84
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 28 × 3 = 84,
    2/28 = 2 × 3/28 × 3 = 6/84
  4. Add the two fractions:
    50/84 + 6/84 = 50 + 6/84 = 56/84
