Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 10 and 20 is 20

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 20
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 10 × 2 = 20,
    3/10 = 3 × 2/10 × 2 = 6/20
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 20 × 1 = 20,
    4/20 = 4 × 1/20 × 1 = 4/20
  4. Add the two like fractions:

  5. 10/20 simplified gives 1/2
