Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 12 and 14 is 84
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 12 × 7 = 84,
    3/12 = 3 × 7/12 × 7 = 21/84
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 14 × 6 = 84,
    6/14 = 6 × 6/14 × 6 = 36/84
  4. Add the two fractions:
    21/84 + 36/84 = 21 + 36/84 = 57/84
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 19/28
