Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 24 and 9 is 72
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 24 × 3 = 72,
    3/24 = 3 × 3/24 × 3 = 9/72
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 9 × 8 = 72,
    7/9 = 7 × 8/9 × 8 = 56/72
  4. Add the two fractions:
    9/72 + 56/72 = 9 + 56/72 = 65/72
