Steps for adding fractions
- Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 12 - For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 3 = 12,
3/4 = 3 × 3/4 × 3 = 9/12 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 12 × 1 = 12,
7/12 = 7 × 1/12 × 1 = 7/12 - Add the two like fractions:
9/12 + 7/12 = 9 + 7/12 = 16/12 - 16/12 simplified gives 4/3
- So, 3/4 + 7/12 = 4/3
