Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 4 and 15 is 60
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 15 = 60,
    3/4 = 3 × 15/4 × 15 = 45/60
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 15 × 4 = 60,
    8/15 = 8 × 4/15 × 4 = 32/60
  4. Add the two fractions:
    45/60 + 32/60 = 45 + 32/60 = 77/60
  5. In mixed form: 117/60
