Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 4 and 28 is 28
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 7 = 28,
    3/4 = 3 × 7/4 × 7 = 21/28
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 28 × 1 = 28,
    9/28 = 9 × 1/28 × 1 = 9/28
  4. Add the two fractions:
    21/28 + 9/28 = 21 + 9/28 = 30/28
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 15/14
