Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 5 and 10 is 10

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 10
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 5 × 2 = 10,
    3/5 = 3 × 2/5 × 2 = 6/10
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 1 = 10,
    1/10 = 1 × 1/10 × 1 = 1/10
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    6/10 + 1/10 = 6 + 1/10 = 7/10
  5. So, 3/5 + 1/10 = 7/10
