Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 56

  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 8 × 7 = 56,
    4/8 = 4 × 7/8 × 7 = 28/56
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    24/56 + 28/56 = 24 + 28/56 = 52/56
  5. 52/56 simplified gives 13/14
