4/10 = 4 × 7/10 × 7 = 28/70 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 7 × 10 = 70,
5/7 = 5 × 10/7 × 10 = 50/70 - Add the two like fractions:
28/70 + 50/70 = 28 + 50/70 = 78/70 - 78/70 simplified gives 39/35
- So, 4/10 + 5/7 = 39/35
