Add 4/8 and 15/18

Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 8 and 18 is 72
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 8 × 9 = 72,
    4/8 = 4 × 9/8 × 9 = 36/72
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 18 × 4 = 72,
    15/18 = 15 × 4/18 × 4 = 60/72
  4. Add the two fractions:
    36/72 + 60/72 = 36 + 60/72 = 96/72
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 4/3
  6. In mixed form: 11/3
