4/8 = 4 × 2/8 × 2 = 8/16 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 16 × 1 = 16,
2/16 = 2 × 1/16 × 1 = 2/16 - Add the two like fractions:
8/16 + 2/16 = 8 + 2/16 = 10/16 - 10/16 simplified gives 5/8
- So, 4/8 + 2/16 = 5/8
