40/60 + 18/24 is 17/12.

Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 60 and 24 is 120
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 60 × 2 = 120,
    40/60 = 40 × 2/60 × 2 = 80/120
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 24 × 5 = 120,
    18/24 = 18 × 5/24 × 5 = 90/120
  4. Add the two fractions:
    80/120 + 90/120 = 80 + 90/120 = 170/120
  5. After reducing the fraction, the answer is 17/12
  6. In mixed form: 15/12
