Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

    50/10 = 50 × 5/10 × 5 = 250/50
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 50 × 1 = 50,
    20/50 = 20 × 1/50 × 1 = 20/50
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    250/50 + 20/50 = 250 + 20/50 = 270/50
  5. 270/50 simplified gives 27/5
  6. So, 50/10 + 20/50 = 27/5
