Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

    50/60 = 50 × 1/60 × 1 = 50/60
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 30 × 2 = 60,
    21/30 = 21 × 2/30 × 2 = 42/60
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    50/60 + 42/60 = 50 + 42/60 = 92/60
  5. 92/60 simplified gives 23/15
