Steps for adding fractions
- Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
LCM of 10 and 12 is 60
Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 60 - For the 1st fraction, since 10 × 6 = 60,
6/10 = 6 × 6/10 × 6 = 36/60 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 12 × 5 = 60,
8/12 = 8 × 5/12 × 5 = 40/60 - Add the two like fractions:
36/60 + 40/60 = 36 + 40/60 = 76/60 - 76/60 simplified gives 19/15
- So, 6/10 + 8/12 = 19/15
