Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 24

  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 8 × 3 = 24,
    7/8 = 7 × 3/8 × 3 = 21/24
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    12/24 + 21/24 = 12 + 21/24 = 33/24
  5. 33/24 simplified gives 11/8
  6. So, 6/12 + 7/8 = 11/8
