Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 7 and 10 is 70

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 70
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 7 × 10 = 70,
    6/7 = 6 × 10/7 × 10 = 60/70
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 7 = 70,
    8/10 = 8 × 7/10 × 7 = 56/70
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    60/70 + 56/70 = 60 + 56/70 = 116/70
  5. 116/70 simplified gives 58/35
  6. So, 6/7 + 8/10 = 58/35
    In mixed form: 123/35
