Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 90
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 9 × 10 = 90,
    6/9 = 6 × 10/9 × 10 = 60/90
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 9 = 90,
    8/10 = 8 × 9/10 × 9 = 72/90
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    60/90 + 72/90 = 60 + 72/90 = 132/90
  5. 132/90 simplified gives 22/15
  6. So, 6/9 + 8/10 = 22/15
