Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 40 - For the 1st fraction, since 8 × 5 = 40,
7/8 = 7 × 5/8 × 5 = 35/40 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 20 × 2 = 40,
10/20 = 10 × 2/20 × 2 = 20/40 - Add the two like fractions:
35/40 + 20/40 = 35 + 20/40 = 55/40 - 55/40 simplified gives 11/8
- So, 7/8 + 10/20 = 11/8
