Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 9 and 10 is 90

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 90
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 9 × 10 = 90,
    8/9 = 8 × 10/9 × 10 = 80/90
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 9 = 90,
    5/10 = 5 × 9/10 × 9 = 45/90
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    80/90 + 45/90 = 80 + 45/90 = 125/90
  5. 125/90 simplified gives 25/18
