Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 28 is 420

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 420
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 14 = 420,
    1/30 = 1 × 14/30 × 14 = 14/420
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 28 × 15 = 420,
    6/28 = 6 × 15/28 × 15 = 90/420
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 14/420 < 90/420 or 1/30 < 6/28
