Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 15 and 9 is 45

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 45
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 15 × 3 = 45,
    10/15 = 10 × 3/15 × 3 = 30/45
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 9 × 5 = 45,
    30/9 = 30 × 5/9 × 5 = 150/45
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 30/45 < 150/45 or 10/15 < 30/9
