Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 16 and 63 is 1008

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 1008
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 16 × 63 = 1008,
    10/16 = 10 × 63/16 × 63 = 630/1008
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 63 × 16 = 1008,
    50/63 = 50 × 16/63 × 16 = 800/1008
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 630/1008 < 800/1008 or 10/16 < 50/63
