Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 2 and 15 is 30

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 30
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 2 × 15 = 30,
    10/2 = 10 × 15/2 × 15 = 150/30
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 15 × 2 = 30,
    36/15 = 36 × 2/15 × 2 = 72/30
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 150/30 > 72/30 or 10/2 > 36/15
